This is the best book I've read in years. The Space Trilogy, the only science-fiction series I've read that has a theistic (not naturalistic) worldview, is a masterpiece; and That Hideous Strength is arguably the best of the three books (possibly matched by Perelandra, the second). Unlike Perelendra and Out of the Silent Planet, it is not set in space, but features an attempt by some extremely nasty British totalitarian academics to take over England. Assisted by demons, they wish to release a certain historical figure from centuries-long sleep.
