I read The Catcher in the Rye in a college course in spring 2005. Holden Caulfield always struck me as odd, and Jonathan Yardley does a better job than I can of explaining why. In light of it, I feel annoyed and perhaps cheated (in the sense of arguably having my time wasted) at my professor having made us read this novel.
